When it comes to how to dress, summer complicates everything. All other seasons afford you a degree of flexibility: a tie, scarf, sweater, light jacket, overcoat, boots, etc. can all be used to add character and flexibility to your outfit.

In summer however, sometimes the only answer seems to be to remove clothing. How do you dress elegantly when anything more than a t-shirt and shorts causes you to break out in sweat?

This is the question we’ve begun to address in our previous two articles (here and here) about James Bond’s summer style. In those, we covered topics such as which fabrics are the most breathable, the versatility of camp collars, and how tanned skin impacts which colors look good on you.

But amidst it all, one question remains: what do you put on your feet?

This is the question we set out to answer today, pulling once more from the adventures of 007. We’ll look at the three main staples of summer footwear, and address the most divisive topic of them all: to sock, or not to sock?

The answer might well surprise you…
