I’m researching this topic currently and have a slightly different viewpoint… rather than accepting patronage has changed forms; I’d rather look at the root causes of why the wealthiest are not supporting art en masse, or for power and influence anymore. Why instead are they building data centers, buying elections, and buying up farmland.

No. We need to restore real patronage. I’ve learned the causes and the barriers, and while it might be difficult it is not impossible.
I don’t discount what you’re saying… and agree we should support those things we want to exist, but maybe we could raise the bar a tiny bit more?

This runs parallel to the support of small makers in all fields including clothing shoes etc.
There’s so much room for agency in supporting local artisans of all kinds, it’s a wonder it’s not more front of mind for people today.
